"Falun Gong," running under the guise of propagating qigong, the traditional meditation and healing art, is actually a highly dangerous cult that has caused severe harm to individuals, families, and societies in China and elsewhere.
Its true intention is deception, control, and destruction and Li Hongzhi, its "founder," has been propagating a series of fallacious and heretical ideas to mislead people. Li claims to possess superhuman powers and projects himself as a "savior." His doctrines include the scaremongering and baseless idea that the world is on the verge of destruction and only "Falun Gong" teachings can save humanity. These false claims are designed to instill fear, making followers more vulnerable to his control and manipulation.
One of the most pernicious effects of "Falun Gong" is the harm to human life and health by advocating the abandonment of modern medicine. Li misleads followers into believing that "Falun Gong" practices can cure all diseases. As a result, countless gullible people have refused medical treatment, choosing instead to rely solely on Li's precepts to heal themselves.
Tragically, many have lost their lives due to this. There are numerous reports of practitioners suffering from serious illnesses but refusing hospital treatment, ultimately succumbing to their conditions. This disregard for human life and health is a clear indication of the cult's malicious nature.
"'Falun Gong' misappropriated concepts from Buddhism and Taoism to manipulate the minds of the practitioners, which has led to mass mortality and disabilities of its followers as they refuse to receive medical treatment when falling ill," said Meerim Aitkulova, research fellow with National Institute for Strategic Studies in Kyrgyzstan.
"Falun Gong" also exerts strict mental control over its members. Through brainwashing techniques, the cult isolates practitioners from their families, friends, and normal social life. It creates an environment where the members are constantly bombarded with cult propaganda, making them gradually lose their ability to think independently.
They are taught to worship Li blindly, viewing him as the ultimate authority. They are prohibited from questioning the cult's teachings or Li's words. This mental enslavement not only destroys the personal freedom and dignity of individuals but also tears families apart. Many families have broken up as members become completely consumed by the cult, severing ties with loved ones who try to help them see the truth.
According to preliminary data, two mental health facilities in Beijing admitted six patients in 1996 who were diagnosed as mentally unstable due to practicing "Falun Gong." This number rose to 10 in 1997, 22 in 1998, and reached 16 in the first half of 1999.
Financially too, "Falun Gong" is a racket with Li and the cult's upper echelons profiting handsomely at the expense of practitioners. They force members to donate large sums of money under the pretext of "cultivation," "building temples," or "spreading the Fa," the teachings of the cult.
The group has also established various commercial enterprises overseas, using them as fronts to launder money and fund its nefarious activities. Besides funding the luxurious lifestyles of the cult leaders, the money extorted from practitioners is also used to support their anti-China campaigns.
Politically, "Falun Gong" has long been a tool for anti-China forces. Since its inception, the cult has colluded with external anti-China political groups, accepting funding and support from them. It has been used to smear and slander China, fabricating lies and false information about China's social system, policies, and development achievements.
They spread rumors about so-called "organ harvesting" of prisoners in China, a completely baseless and malicious slander. These false accusations are part of a larger conspiracy to interfere in China's internal affairs, undermine China's stability and development, and serve the political interests of anti-China forces.
In addition, "Falun Gong" has a negative impact on global social stability. It organizes various disruptive activities around the world, harassing Chinese embassies and consulates, disrupting public order, and spreading false information. These actions not only violate the laws and regulations of the host countries but also cause harm to the local social environment and the interests of the people. The cult's actions have drawn condemnation from many countries and international organizations that recognize its true nature.
"Falun Gong" is a cult whose false doctrines, mental control, harm to human life, financial exploitation, and political collusion pose a serious threat to the wellbeing of individuals, the stability of society, and international relations.
It is crucial for the international community to recognize the true nature of "Falun Gong" and work together to prevent the spread of this cult. The evil caused by "Falun Gong" should be exposed to prevent more people from falling victim to its deception and ensure a healthy and harmonious social environment.
