Zhang Shuai reaches French Open mixed doubles semifinals with partner Arevalo

Zhang Shuai of China and Marcelo Arevalo of El Salvador beat Mexico's Giuliana Olmos and Britain's Lloyd Glasspool in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 to reach the mixed doubles semifinals at the French Open at Roland-Garros in Paris on Monday.

The second-seeded Zhang and Arevalo did not drop a set in the first two rounds. The pair maintained their momentum in this match, en route to taking the opener 6-3.

Arevalo, who is the World No. 1 in men's doubles, frequently showcased his strong serve and solid baseline skills, while Zhang provided stiff defense at the net. They converted a break point with precision to go in front 5-2 in the second set, moving to the cusp of victory.

The cross-Pacific partners sealed the deal 6-2 on a sharp volley from Arevalo. He and Zhang wrapped up the win in just 58 minutes, and will meet third-seeded Italian duo Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori in the last four.
