In a thrilling showdown at China's National Diving Championships in Wuhan, Chen Yiwen emerged triumphant in the women's 3-meters springboard, edging out a formidable challenge from Chen Jia.
25-year-old Chen Yiwen and her 20-year-old rival set the tone early, both delivering impeccable opening dives and earning 76.50 points apiece, a dead heat that promised a riveting contest.
Chen Jia, opting for a dive with a higher degree of difficulty in the second round, nudged ahead by 2.55 points. The third dive saw the duo locked once again, both scoring an identical 76.05, heightening the tension.
But the momentum shifted on the fourth dive. Chen Jia faltered, her effort yielding a modest 72 points, while Chen Yiwen display the composure of a seasoned champion, scoring 83.70.
Riding this wave of confidence, the Paris Olympics gold medalist maintained her impeccable form in the fifth dive, ultimately securing the top spot with a commanding total of 392.70 points.
